Kyle Schwartz on things #iwishmyteacherknew

The New York Times have re-tweeted this article by Donna De La Cruz as one of their most engaging stories of 2016. It sure is. Here are a few of the achingly wonderful replies from kids who were asked to finish the question:

"I wish my teacher knew".....

and an excerpt:

.... Some children were struggling with poverty (“I wish my teacher knew I don’t have pencils at home to do my homework”); an absent parent (“I wish my teacher knew that sometimes my reading log is not signed because my mom isn’t around a lot”); and a parent taken away (“I wish my teacher knew how much I miss my dad because he got deported to Mexico when I was 3 years old and I haven’t seen him in six years”).

There are charming and cute replies as well as poignant and the >450 comments to the article are important reads in themselves; some are slightly pithy, most are supportive, all are thought provoking.

Here's the link to the article again -  and the book - and the smart and engaging Ted talk by originator and author Kyle Schwartz. I hope you enjoy!
