I confess that I'm not a big fan of the whole hero culture that we seem to have going. Too often the ‘heroes’ aren’t heroic and are anything but role model material. But Peaceful Heroes is a collection of super-short biographies of people who have impacted the world positively and peacefully.
It’s entirely possible that somewhere a little one is reading their Grandparent’s childhood copy of Dogger. First published in 1977, the story is almost 40 years old – and it’s still fresh and lively and entirely relatable. The story is well known and well loved and so hardly needs recounting here. There’s a flower child, peace loving vibe about this book! A young girl calls a family meeting basically to try to convince her parents of the need for ‘better’ jobs so that they can ‘buy a lot of nice new things’ and the story is about how she becomes convinced of the value of the life they live.

Tucked in and around this story about a young woman in the Great Depression are a myriad of really valuable thoughts and lessons.
You might know a baby who is the head of household ... perhaps one even lives in your house. Parents, siblings and grandparents will all recognise the The Boss Baby and their own responses. Full of 'we've all been there' moments. Lots of fun for littlies too as they giggle at the things the Boss Baby gets away with.

This very beautiful picture book is about Rose, who is “a new face in a new street.” It's a daunting prospect for anyone, young or old. This is a book that adults will love to look at and read aloud, for the gentle reminders they’ll find as much as the sheer loveliness of it.
